Artist's Comments

This is an amazing monument, sculputer, art piece... not sure how to describe it. I don't know much about the actual artist, but it definitely is an eye-catching piece. So, I wanted to honor it by portraying it with all the magnitude it deserves. It is located in Helsinki, Finland... not too far from the city center.

All comments are as always welcome!

A monument is usually reserved for statues of person, commemorating a great national figure or important persons :) This is indeed a sculpture, and also therefore an art piece ;P
Amazing!! How big is it? :wow: Seems huge!!! It's funny, coz my childhood doctor had an artwork he had done similar to this, with wooden pieces :giggle: Haw, memories :aww:
Great shot, and great angle :) Shooting it from below like that does give it grandeur and magnitude :D

:toast: just get the toast!!! :toast:

Ah, now I know from whom I learned the word "nifty"!!! :) Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply: the sculpture is quite big: you can "put" your head in the lowest tubes, with "you" being normal height. I guess in total it must be about 5-6 meters tall by about 10 wide?

It definitely catches your eye, as it is totally different from what you have ever seen, yet is still kind of familiar! =)

Thanks for the explanation on the differences between monument and sculpture! I knew i could count on you! :)

It is quite big: i assume it must be between 5-6 meters high and about 10 meters wide. You can put your head into the lowest tubes... being normal height (not like a basketball-player or something!).

Thanks for the comment on the angle: i also think that the sky pushes it also a little further into grandeur! :)

oh neat (about the ehad thing) :D Thx, it gives a certain sense of scale ;P
Yea it's pretty much a fixed fact that shooting from a low angle always gives more power and makes the object/person seem more imposing :) Think, for example, of Mr. Leonardo in "Titanic" when he screams he's the king of the world: because of the low angle, he seems taller, more imposing, more powerful, and, therefore, there's more truth to his statement. Shooting from a straight angle wouldn't have had such a huge effect, and from a high angle (looking from above), it would have made the statement a bit ironic :giggle: (yay for film class lmao)
